Hey guests! you know you want to post on our cbox :D
The middle ages are coming to an end, and a great epidemic sweeps the globe. Every human died of a disease that spread like wildfire over the total population. Tame horses, dogs, and cats all passed away from it, catching it from their masters. The only animals to survive were of the wild. The squirrels being one of them. They, unlike the rats and mice that thrived with the humans, then died with them as well, still lived and were now grouping together in North America. From Fox Squirrels to Red Squirrels, they fled Europe and most of Canada, the lands that were becoming populated by wolves and other predators, and grouped together. The forests that they lived in were mostly filled with nomad dreys... but eventually the idea of a human-like clan grew popular... though not all squirrels liked it. As most of the squirrels had come over already, some of them in boats with Europeans, many years ago, it was hard to convert some of the squirrels untouched by those ideas. But starting with the albino squirrel Martin, and going on from there, the forests were split up, and the lands were taken over by certain clans. As days progressed, they eventually began adapting things like humans would; taking milk from the stems of plants, establishing hierarchies, and occasionally walking up right. Would they grow to be creatures of human likeness? Or would the ways of an animal overcome that thinking? Only time would tell.

A plague is what caused everything. It lasted only two and half short Turns, and still nearly killed all life on Pern. Or all life that stood between humanity and utter annihilation.
The Holds were untouched; only the Weyrs suffered loss. Dragons started coughing and riders started to weaken and tire easily. The riders, remembering history, remembering and fearing, quarantined themselves, breaking all contact with the Holds to prevent the spread. At least the people would continue existing, new Candidates would stand ready to replenish the Weyrs once the threat had passed. They would overcome and triumph.
And then the dragons began dying in their sleep and the riders followed after. To the horror of all, Queens were affected the most severely, dying the fastest, especially those close to clutching. Despair ran rampant; without their Queens, the dragons had no hope of continuation. There would be none to replace those already lost.
When it was almost too late, the remaining riders whom the plague had not yet infected set out and found a lonely Weyr far from the sickness, neither in the North nor the South. The sick were left to die; there was no way to stop this invisible menace, to prevent the inevitable. Only a handful had hope; a pair of grown Queens, seven bronzes, eleven browns, twenty-four blues, and forty greens, plus a weyrling Queen, hatched just before the plague struck, the last of her siblings to survive the onslaught. The last real hope for Pern's survival.
While the riders waited for the inevitable to happen, for the sickness to run out of flesh to feed on, they lasted through harsh winters and blazing summers. For two Turns, they waited, their despair growing. Thread was due to return in the next Turn or two; would they be safe to leave their haven when it did? Finally, the remaining dragons stopped keening for lost brethren, for there was none left to keen for. The plague had finally claimed the last life it had access to and now laid dormant, unable to infect anything else. Those left could return home.
Yet, the only thing left of what once had been were the empty Weyrs and a few bodies that had yet to be devoured by wild animals. The sickness could then only be contracted by touching the dead with bare flesh; too cautious and too fearful, the last riders did the only thing they could do -- burn the bodies where they lay and scatter the ashes between, where the fatal disease would be lost forevermore.
The riders spread out, forming three new Weyrs. One of the adult Queens took to the North, taking with her two bronzes, five of the browns, nine blues, and fourteen greens. Some stayed at the only home they had had for the past two Turns, the haven-Weyr, Sinowa. Here the weyrling Queen, now in her second Turn, took up the mantle of Senior Queen, keeping with her three bronzes, three browns, four blues and four greens. The last Queen, old and egg-heavy for the last time led her fair down to the warmth of the Southern Continent, too tired to deal with more cold and harshness. In their hearts the dragons and riders carried the memory of those lost, and in their blood they carried the vaccine that the Weyr Healers had dedicated most of their time in solitude creating. Even if the plague had escaped complete eradication, it would never again harm Pern's defenders. Nothing of its menace would ever again threaten the future of the planet...
...No one ever stopped to consider the side-effects.

☼Hazel Nut☼
Hazel entered the Riverdreys to find the place packed with activity. He looked over the usual "town square" of all squirrels in Vinidictive. "Apparently," Hazel thought to himself, "some new squirrels came over from the other lands today. I sure hope they're friendly." He fell on all fours and ran over to the huge oak to get a look around the place, after stopping to pick up a nut or two to stick in his mouth of course. It was a beautiful day outside, which was the reason Hazel was out in the Riverdreys.
He started putting paw after paw up the tree, climbing up it. He stopped at a nice strong branch and sat near the end of it, holding on a branch for balance and to get the best view of the place, all the while eating the nuts he found. He would usually come out here on sunny afternoons, like today. He watched all the natives talking to the new squirrels. "Well these new squirrels seem to be different then others, especially some of these squirrels that look so different." He mumbled to himself through the nuts.
He watched as one squirrel tried showing off to one of the strangers by trying some acrobatic tricks and ended up falling. Hazel chuckled to himself, he liked to think that most of the squirrels needed a teaching on acrobatics and agility, he knew that his father would probably have him doing the same thing over and over again until he got it right.
After finishing his nuts he started going back and looking for the best way down when he spotted a lone squirrel, that looked like one of the strangers, sitting on a branch. Hazel, being the good, kind type climbed down unto the branch the squirrel was sitting on. "Good afternoon. So I take it your one of the new squirrels that came from over the seas. Are you liking it so far here in Vindictive?"
Feeling Lonely « Result #5 on Oct 7, 2009, 7:58pm »
She clung to the side of the large tree. The hand holds on the trunk made the hang easy on her muscles. Elisha was still quite new here and she had few aquaintances. Hopefully she would be able to change that within the next week or so because when you are lonely and sad depression isn't that far away.
The female sighed. She hadn't expected it to be all this hard to make her way in the new world. It had all seemed like heaven from 'over there'. Scampering up the tree she was able to move out onto a horizontal tree limb. Finding a comfortable spot she sat and scanned the forest floor below.
It was amazing how much activity you could see when you just took the time to look. Elisha seen ants lined up charrying food and a flower about to bloom. Mothers ran about with there kits and males tried to swoon the femmaes. It was all very serene.
It was about noon and her stomach began to rumble. Lazily she looked around for something decent to eat. Finally she was able to find some nuts and a few pieces of fruit. Holding them in her small paws. Taking a bite she smiled. The nuts were an excellent entree and the fruit made a wonderous desert.

Hello there literate roleplayers. Are you tired of bland Light vs. Dark plots, equine RPGs that all seem the same, and plots that don't affect your character?
Well we've got a surprise for you. At The Secret it's not just about good and evil. In fact, good and evil don't have a lot to do with things. No matter whose side you're on, you can be as nice or as cruel as you see fit. But if you live in the north you'd better be tough if you want to stay alive. Here's a summary of what kinds of characters you can make:
Southern equines: The Resistance. You like freedom and would rather be left to your own devices. Conquering is not really your thing, you just want to be left alone to start a herd. Weakland equines: The Captives. You keep your head down and hope you don't get beaten up too often. You dream of escaping to the south, but know you'll be killed for trying. Mostly mares live here, though there is a small number of stallions. They usually get beaten down the most so they can't rebel. Northern equines: Tartarus's Legions. You work for the mastermind, Tartarus, the one who blew the news about the object of power out into the open. You answer to his captain Atlas, and you spend your time fighting, bullying mares in the Weaklands, and training colts for the army. If you have any spare time you can gather a small herd. Haven of Hesperides: The Secret Keepers. You know not hate nor greed, and you live within the walls of the Haven. You may leave to explore, but other equines seem so different to you. You live in peace and philosophy, seeking knowledge and enlightenment. But you know what is brewing, and the battle will come to your doorstep even though they cannot break down the door.
We are also accepting staff applications for Global Moderators, Graphics Designers and Skin Designer.
What's going on... ?
There was peace once, though by now it is but a distant memory in the minds of those old enough to remember. There was order and cohesion, and nothing to fear. The Keepers of Hesperides stayed within their walled Haven, and none disrupted their peace. There was always a rumor that an object of unspeakable power lay hidden within those great walls, but in time the rumor grew dull with age. But now a young stallion, maddened with greed, is gathering all the information he can about this mysterious object of celestial power. Flanked by the powerful drafts of the northern lands, he is murdering and taking prisoners left and right. There is only a handful of southern herds that stand against him, led by the mysterious Theseus. If they are vanquished, the Keepers will be on their own. Chaos and uncertainty abound. How much longer can the forces of reason hold off this madman?
The board is set, the pieces are in play. Whose side will you join?
Wolves of the Woods « Result #9 on Sept 6, 2009, 11:15pm »
The packs have been living in fair peace through out the years. Quite nice, the peace has been. The four packs (Lunar Moon Pack, Amazon Lands, Fog Valley, and Twisted Desires) are friendly to each other. Maybe the reason is because they didn't often come near each other. But, this time, this year, this month, who knows, maybe even today, that will all change. Fights are starting to break out outside of packs... and inside of packs. Its getting deadlier and deadlier for parents or soon to be parents to have or raise pups. Wolves are dying, and its all because of some lousy wolves who are lazy, and won't hunt on their territory or such. All the wolves agree, surprisingly, that they should punish the wolves who do so. But, leaders haven't been enforcing it. Actually, they’ve been the ones saying for the wolves to do it!
Will you venture into modern Russia, and join a pack? Or, would you be a loner? Live the life as a wolf, or dog, or something along the Canis line. Hunt, mate, enjoy life, hate life, its all here in Wolves of the Woods. Live or die. Yep, that’s the code.
If you feel you can gut the experience of a life time?
We are an intermediate to advanced semi-realistic wolf role-playing game that takes place before human kind took their place as the apex predator and where the wolf rules supreme. We are looking for dedicated writers and active members seeking in-depth role-play, long-term creations and fantasy that truly takes flight. Because we do not expect members to post every day and there are not set posting rules all we ask if that you try to be active. What you put into the group is what you get out so with that being said it is the members that set the current plot not the staff so the pace of the storyline is the pace the group as a whole decides. This storyline offers drama, romance, hardship, trust, friendship, hatred and plots that leave you begging for more.
